OUR MISSION
Rhode Islanders have been hit particularly hard by the foreclosure crisis. We have had one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country since the market crashed in 2008. It will be my Mission to pass legislation to protect Rhode Islanders from these predatory lenders that created the housing crisis!
I ran for State Representative two years ago, and it wasn’t easy challenging an incumbent who had been in office since the 1990s. Thanks to the support of many of you, I came close … so close that the incumbent decided not to run again.
I’m working even harder this time. I know you deserve strong representation at the State House, and that’s what I intend to give you on your behalf. You will never find anyone who will work harder for North Providence than me. You will never find anyone who will fight for your interests harder than me.
I know these are difficult times in North Providence and especially in our state. That’s why I am focusing on the economy and jobs. We’ve got to get things moving. We need new ideas and fresh voices like mine at the State House. The time for insider deals like the one that brought you 38 Studios is over!
We need to get people back to work and gave them the opportunity to earn a better living. The lives of your children and grandchildren should be better and more successful than ourselves – that’s the American way! You shouldn’t have to be worrying about whether or not your children or grandchildren can find jobs or stay in Rhode Island because of a lack of employment. This is why I support opening the ports of Providence and Newport! By bringing in one more cargo ship per day we can bring thousands of jobs to the state of Rhode Island good paying jobs that will keep our children and grandchildren here in Rhode Island!
Also I support the windmill project off of Block Island this project will put 2000 to 3000 Rhode Islanders to work for 2 to 3 years! Massachusetts just started it Windmill project off of Cape Cod and hired 3000 workers 500 of which are Rhode Islanders.
We also need to change our tax policy away from taxing the middle class and small businesses to taxing the people who deserve to be taxed! For example, RI is the only state in New England that does not tax YACHTS and luxury sailboats! But we tax middle-class families and senior citizens for driving a car! We can get rid of the car tax by taxing Yachts and luxury sailboats and give that tax back to the communities in order to eliminate the increase in car tax which hurts every middle class and senior citizen household in North Providence!
With your help, I know we can do better.

O'Brien wants to work cooperatively with other officials
NORTH PROVIDENCE - William O'Brien, the Democratic candidate for state representative in House District 54, said this week that he will work with other officials to attract jobs, improve the economy, and hold the line on taxes.
"I have knocked on the doors of hundreds and hundreds of homeowners in two campaigns and their voices have come through loud and clear," he said in a news release. "There is tremendous concern that their elected state officials have lost touch with the local residents regarding the economy."
According to O'Brien, "the voters do not feel that the state has done nearly enough to provide new job opportunities and they are tired of waiting for the economy to turn around."
Instead of the "bickering" that has marked local and state politics, said O'Brien, he intends "to work cooperatively with other officials toward a common goal of improving economic opportunities, reducing unnecessary spending, and eliminating the increase in the car tax that are costing North Providence residents an increase in taxes."
